Sarah Wydall is a Associate Dean of Research, Knowledge Exchange and Innovation for the Faculty of Arts and Social Justice, Director of The Centre of Age, Gender and Social Justice and Principal Investigator on the Dewis Choice Project.
Sarah was awarded two National awards -The Welsh Crucible Award for Research Leadership and ‘The Audrey Jones Memorial Award for Feminist Scholarship in Wales’ for her research on domestic abuse and older women.
Sarah is a member of the International Network Addressing Filial Violence.

Rebecca Zerk is the research project manager for the Dewis Choice Project. Rebecca is passionate about capturing voices that have previously been silenced to bring about positive change. Rebecca has been awarded two scholarships as a Doctoral Researcher at Aberystwyth University. She is currently completing her PhD in the area of older people and domestic abuse, looking specifically at help-seeking behaviours in later life. Rebecca has a keen interest in the area of victimology, working on six research projects relating to domestic abuse. She was awarded a prize for the ‘victims’ module during her undergraduate degree.

Elize Freeman is a highly qualified and trained Choice Wellbeing Practitioner and Service Development Lead. Elize is passionate about working with older people to improve their family situation. Elize has a keen interest in identifying ways to measure wellbeing through engagement with older clients and the older community. She is an accredited SafeLives Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) and Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA). She has completed Level 1 Counselling skills, Mental Health First Aid and Safeguarding Adults training. Elize is also a Dementia Champion who delivers dementia friends sessions to practitioners and community members. Elize has designed and delivered national training for SafeLives IDVA’s working with older people.

John Williams is a project volunteer on the Dewis Choice Project and an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Law and Criminology. 

John’s main area of research is examining how the law affects older people with a particular emphasis on human rights, social care, the criminal justice system and elder abuse.
He is the author of many academic and practitioner papers on topics such as the rights of older prisoners, social care of older prisoners, the case for a public law on the protection of adults at risk, care home design and human rights, and international human rights and older people. Most recently, he authored Protection of older people in Wales: a guide to the Law.

Alan Clarke is a project volunteer on the Dewis Choice Project and an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Law and Criminology. Alan’s research interests are in the fields of criminal justice interventions, crime policy and community safety.  He has published numerous research reports, journal articles and book chapters on the impact of intervention programmes, domestic violence and abuse, elder abuse and evaluation research methodology.
